Holistic Therapies:

The National Institute of Health in response to the increasing use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine has created the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM).  Complementary and alternative medicine and healing modalities, such as those offered by Hilton Head Holistic Healing, LLC are intended to be used in conjunction with a doctor's care for greatest effect.

Myofascial Release Therapy (MFR) is a gentle, relaxing, and deeply effective treatment. It works to melt the fascia, which runs in a continuous web throughout the body, by activating the energy potential within the tissues. Fascia has tensile strength of 2,000 pounds per square inch (PSI). That means that when it is tight it is putting 2,000 pounds of pressure per inch on the delicate systems of your body. This includes the nervous system as in fibromyalgia, and the skeletal system as in cases of idiopathic scoliosis. Fascia will remain tight until released by a MFR therapist. Because of its strength, it is physically impossible to work through it with deep tissue massage, only Myofascial Release Therapy works.

Reiki: "The secret art of inviting happiness. The miraculous medicine of all diseases." - Dr. Mikao Usui   The awareness that an unseen energy flows through all living things and directly affects the quality of a person's health has been part of the wisdom of many cultures since ancient times. When the energy is low, it is more difficult to deal with stress; you may not sleep well, and you are more susceptible to illness. When the energy is strong, you feel strong, you can efficiently deal with stress, and are less likely to get sick. Reiki is a technique that increases a person's supply of life energy. Reiki energy flows from the practitioner's hands and into the client's body and energy field. A Reiki session feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that surrounds and fills the client and includes feelings of relaxation, peace, and well-being that promotes healing.

Deep tissue or Swedish massage, which is more effective? Actually, when done right, they are both equally effective. As I mentioned in the description of MFR, fascia has a tensile strength of 2,000 PSI. To work through that with massage you would have to apply more than 2,000 pounds of pressure, which would be terribly painful! So, what is the difference between deep tissue and deep pressure massage? Deep tissue strategically works through the layers of tissue encouraging them to balance and realign. Deep pressure just hurts! The primary objective of a good therapeutic massage is to activate the parasympathetic nervous system which returns the body to its restorative state. This naturally releases tension and pain.

One of the most unique treatments offered at Lowcountry Reiki & Myofascial Therapy is the Fascia Facial.  When surgeons perform a facelift they go under the skin to release it from the connective tissues, pull the skin taught, trim off the excess, and suture it down.  This leads to a lengthy recovery time with pain, swelling, and scars.  Why do they have to release the skin from the connective tissues?  Because the wrinkles are not in the skin, they are in the connective tissues.  During the Fascia Facial your therapist will gently release the skin from the connective tissues, releasing it from the wrinkles below.  This also helps to hydrate the skin from within.  The treatment is painless and deeply relaxing, and creates lasting results.  Clients often see results after the first treatment, but for best results 5-10, 30-minute sessions are recommended.  This treatment can be done alone, or can be added to a 60 or 90-minute full-body treatment session.

Golf, one of the primary reasons that people come to Hilton Head!  One of the most important things for your game is full range of motion.  With the limited range of motion that comes from fascial adhesions the strength and fluidity of your back swing and follow through are reduced, as is the power to send the ball soring down the fairway.  Myofascial Release works to bring the body into alignment to increase fluidity, strength, and range of motion.  After a quick assessment of your postural alignment we'll create a treatment plan to get you out on the links!  This threatment can be done alone, or can be added to a 60 or 90-minute full-body treatment session.
